MANILA- (2ND UPDATE) The powerful Commission on Appointments confirmed Wednesday the appointment of two former military officials to President Rodrigo Duterte's Cabinet.
The body confirmed the appointment of former military chief Eduardo Año's as secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and former Army chief Rolando Bautista as chief of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
There were no objections from members of the CA.
Meanwhile, former Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) board member Aileen Lizada's appointment as Civil Service Commission commissioner was also approved by the CA.
Her term will end on Feb. 2, 2025.
Año assumed the DILG top post in November 2018 after the mandatory one year ban on the appointment of resigned or retired military officials as secretary lapsed.
Año was appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as DILG undersecretary in October 2017 before leading the department in January 2018 in an officer-in-charge capacity.
Duterte meanwhile announced Bautista's appointment as social welfare chief in October 2018.
A 1985 graduate of the Philippine Military Academy, Bautista was the first Presidential Security Group chief under Duterte.
