ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines - The Armed Forces Western Mindanao Command has confirmed that a doctor was abducted in Jolo, Sulu on Tuesday evening.

Dr. Daniel Moreno was snatched from his clinic in Barangay Walled City by unidentified armed men wearing police and military uniforms.

The group then boarded a red vehicle and was seen traveling outside Jolo town a few hours after the incident.

WesMinCom Spokesperson Army Major John Encinas said pursuit operations are being carried out to trace and safely rescue Moreno.

Encinas said the victim’s family and authorities have yet to receive calls from the abductors.

In January, at least 5 Indonesian fishermen were reported to have been abducted by suspected members of the Abu Sayyaf group off Malaysian waters.

The WesMinCom believes foreign captives are brought to the Southern part of the country by their captors.
