Photo from Osmeña's Facebook Page</figcaption></figure></div>MANILA — Voters enraged by politicians apparently engaged in premature campaigning can show their “distaste” by rejecting them in the May midterm elections, a Commission on Elections (Comelec) spokesperson said Tuesday.“A lot of people might find it distasteful, a lot of people might find it an unfair practice,” director James Jimenez told reporters.“If people feel a certain way, then take it out on the ballot because ultimately, that’s the judgment that politicians understand.”Candidates for national and local positions have been putting up posters and other campaign materials even before the start of the official campaign period — a situation the Comelec acknowledged is not prohibited under the law.The campaign period won’t start until Feb. 12 for senatorial and party-list candidates, and March 29 for those seeking local elective posts.Among those under scrutiny for their rampant campaign materials is President Rodrigo Duterte's former aide, Christopher Go, who is running for senator.Huge billboards of Go with Duterte are seen on major thoroughfares, raising questions on whether government resources are being used for his campaign.“Come start of the campaign period... that would be the question there,” said Jimenez, responding to a question on Go during a press conference.“We will (cross) the bridge when we get there.”Campaign materials promoting other senatorial candidates, including those from the opposition, have also become commonplace months before the elections.
