Fidel Nemenzo named new UP Diliman chancellor

MANILA - Professor Fidel Nemenzo was appointed as the new chancellor of the University of the Philippines Diliman.

The UP Board of Regents made the announcement after their meeting Monday.

Prior to his new appointment, Nemenzo served as the Vice Chancellor for Research and Development.

He is the 10th UP Diliman chancellor, and will be in position until 2023.

Nemenzo will be succeeding Dr. Michael Tan.

In his speech right after the announcement, Nemenzo asked for the community's participation and unity.

Nemenzo, a professor at the UP Institute of Mathematics, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics degree from UP Diliman in 1985. He took both his master's and doctorate degree from Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan.

He has been teaching at UP Diliman since 1992.

He is the son of former UP president Francisco Nemenzo Jr.
