MANILA - Police on Sunday presented four suspects in the killing of a barangay captain who was running for a legislative post in Quezon City.
The four suspects were identified as Teofilo Formanes and brothers Ruel Juab, Orlando Juab and Joppy Juab.
Five others who were allegedly involved in the case were arrested for obstruction of justice, while two more remain at large.
“As to the mastermind, investigation is still ongoing,” said National Capital Region Police Office chief Director Guillermo Eleazar.
Barangay Bagong Silangan chair Criselle Beltran was shot dead inside her vehicle along with her driver around 12 noon January 31.
Beltran was running for Congress as representative of Quezon City's second district.
Eleazar said they are not declaring the case as solved yet.
“We still have to dig up other pieces of evidence,” he said.
Quezon City Acting Mayor Joy Belmonte meanwhile said it was still uncertain if Beltran's killing was politically-motivated.
"Tingin ko hindi pa naman dapat i-declare na election hotspot ang Quezon City dahil hindi pa naman ito nadi-declare na election-related crime," Belmonte said.
(I think Quezon City shouldn't be declared as an election hotspot yet because this has yet to be declared as an election-related crime.)
