Murder charges were filed Friday against the ex-girlfriend of slain Philippine Air Force Sgt. Mark Herbert Oberes, whose body was found burned in Barangay Valencia, Carcar City in Cebu.
Resamae Cabanog, her mother Edna Cabanog, Joshua Garciano, Tomas Isugan, and two other John Does face murder charges filed by the Talisay City Police.
They are suspects in the killing of Oberes in Talisay City on Wednesday night.
Resamae and Garciano were taken into police custody Thursday and were brought before the Talisay City Prosecutor's office for inquest.
But just as the charges were filed, Garciano approached Diana Oberes, wife of the victim. He pleaded for forgiveness and said he is willing to be a witness.
Garciano admitted that the victim and Resamae had a relationship last year but already broke up.
He said he had been with Resamae for more than a month already. He added that the motive is not because of a love triangle but because of a personal conflict.
The wife also admitted the same thing before City Fiscal William Canta. She said his husband and Resamae were business partners in a networking company. It was late July when their relationship flourished, she said.
The inquest proceedings are set to resume on Monday afternoon as the suspects have not yet given their statements before the city fiscal.
They have been given one week to file their counter-affidavits before the resolution of the city fiscal will be released.
If prosecutors find probable cause against the suspects, the murder charges will be elevated to the court.
