A fire that razed the Housing Technology Industries (HTI) building in the Cavite Economic Zone compound in General Trias has caused an estimated P15 billion worth of damage, Cavite Governor Boying Remulla said Friday.
About 10,000 employees are expected to lose their jobs while the company rebuilds its 6-hectare factory.
Remulla has recalled his state of calamity declaration after the company committed to shoulder all the expenses and damages.
He also apologized for his earlier statement that a female employee has died due to fire-related injuries.
There is no casualty in the HTI factory fire yet because the person who died earlier was not a fire victim, he said.
Two fire victims remain in critical condition while 124 others are still confined as they recuperate from minor wounds.
The HTI building is still on fire though 80 percent of the blaze has already been put out, Bureau of Fire Protection Region 4A Director Sergio Soriano said.
Based on the last headcount of employees, three people have yet to be accounted for, officials said.
