The public information office of the City of Manila on Sunday said that a man believed to be sick and laying on a sidewalk was just drunk.

The image of the man went viral on social media on Saturday, and he was initially identified as Chinese. According to the Manila PIO, he was Korean.

The PIO added that the Ermita Police said the man fell asleep because he was intoxicated.

According to Ermita Police Station Commander Police Lt. Col. Ariel Caramoan, the Korean man personally went to the station after discovering that photos and videos of him sleeping on the street trended online.

A social media user on Saturday posted photos and videos of the man, claiming he was a Chinese national who collapsed on the street along Taft Avenue corner Remedios Street.

In a video, the netizen said the man had fever and was shivering but is still alive. He added that several government agencies were contacted to help, but no ambulance arrived to help the "patient."
