MANILA—Filipinos eyeing jobs in Japan are now required to pass a technical and language skills examination under the new visa category.
In an advisory, the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration said the new visa category, which will go into effect starting April, will allow Filipinos aged 18 and older to apply for two new residency status — Visa Type 1 and Visa Type 2.
Type 1 will allow Filipinos to work at middle- and lower-level skilled such as farming, nursing care, and construction. The visa will be valid for 5 years, but it does not allow holders to bring their family to Japan.
Meanwhile, Type 2 will allow Filipinos to work at jobs that require a higher skill level, bring their families to Japan, and reside permanently there.
Japan is looking for workers in the sectors of health care, building cleaning management, machine parts and tools, industrial machinery, electric, among others. — Report from Michael Delizo, ABS-CBN News
