MANILA- Al Parreño has been chosen as the next acting chairman of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), the poll body's spokesperson said Thursday.
Parreño will replace Acting Chair Christian Robert Lim who will retire on Friday, Feb. 2.
Lim was assigned as acting chair following the resignation of then Comelec Chairman Andres Bautista.
Comelec Spokesman James Jimenez said the decision was revealed by Lim Thursday during a hearing of the Joint Congressional Oversight Committee on Automated Elections.
Comelec Director Teopisto Elnas Jr. meanwhile has been designated by the en banc as Project Management Office head. He will handle the implementation of the Comelec's automated elections system program.
