ILOILO - The Department of Health (DOH) has confirmed that sex education and counseling will be conducted in schools, while condoms can be availed in health centers.
Health Secretary Paulyn Ubial revealed that DOH and the Department of Education made an agreement to organize the implementation of comprehensive age appropriate sexuality education at different primary and secondary schools in the country.
Included in the program are topics about teenage pregnancy, HIV-AIDS, and other sexually transmitted illnesses.
The DOH will also lead the training and capacity-building for teachers. The agency clarified that the distribution of condoms and other health services will be done in health centers.
Ubial arrived in Iloilo Tuesday for the turnover of the Health Facility Enhancement Program Building at Federico Roman Tirador Sr. District Hospital in the town of Janiuay. New facilities worth P35 million were turned over to the district hospital.
The provincial government believes this project will further boost medical services and accommodate more poor patients.
The DOH also assured the provincial government that it will allocate a separate fund for the drainage and sewerage system for district hospitals in the province of Iloilo.
