TACURONG CITY- A drug suspect was killed by elements of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) during a buy-bust operation in Tacurong City at around 7 p.m. Monday.

The suspect was identified as Ian Belmonte.

A PDEA agent who acted as a buyer met the suspect in a lodging house room in Purok Montilla.

According to PDEA Acting Director Gil Cesario Castro, the suspect sensed that the person he was transacting with is an agent. The suspect drew his homemade pistol, pulled the trigger, but his gun failed to fire.

The agent then shot the suspect in the chest. Three small sachets and a large pack of suspected shabu with an estimated worth of 400,000 pesos were recovered from the suspect.

According to Castro, they were tailing the suspect for a week before they launched the operation.

He added that the suspect was not in the PNP and PDEA watch lists. They will investigate whether the suspect was using an alias.
