MANILA - The Bacolod–Silay Airport in Negros Occidental raised heightened alert on Wednesday following deadly explosions in a mosque and cathedral in southwestern Mindanao.
Police deployed additional personnel inside the airport while paramilitary troops patrolled its perimeter, according to its management.
Airlines were also advised to beef up the inspection of passengers and their luggage.
Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines information officer Ophelia Leonardo urged travelers to patiently comply with the security checks.
The heightened security alert in Negros' gateway came 3 days after twin explosions rocked a Catholic cathedral in Jolo, Sulu, leaving 21 dead and some 100 injured.
Past 12 a.m. Wednesday, a grenade blast ripped through a mosque in the southern city of Zamboanga, killing at least 2 people.
