MANILA - Presidential Communications Undersecretary Lorraine Badoy admitted Tuesday that the source of her erroneous blog on Senator Emmanuel Pacquiao's supposed mistress were subdivision guards and a vendor of "taho."
Pacquiao brought up Badoy's false claim in 2016 during a Senate hearing on fake news.
"I still remember, pinicturan mo iyung bahay ng tao ko and then sabi mo, this is the house of the mistress of Manny Pacquiao, a Christian," Pacquiao told Badoy.
(You took a photo of my staff member's house and claimed that is the house of the mistress of Manny Pacquiao, a Christian.)
"I forgive you, but I want you to say sorry in front of me," he added.
Badoy apologized to Pacquiao "because I hurt you."
Senator Grace Poe, however, said the issue was not Pacquiao's feelings, but the accuracy of Badoy's narrative.
Asked to clarify who her sources were, Badoy said: "Because it's a village, the magtataho... and the guards and that sort of thing."
Badoy also said she posted the blog because she took offense over Pacquiao's controversial remarks on same-sex marriage.
The senator had come under fire for saying couples in same-sex marriages are worse than animals. He has apologized for the remark.
Paquiao accepted Badoy's apology and asked her to remove her blog.
The undersecretary, who is also a doctor and staunch supporter of President Rodrigo Duterte, promised to take down her erroneous post.
