MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday said he will soon fire agrarian reform officials for failing to act on certain requests.
Duterte did not identify the officials he wants to fire but disclosed that two will have to go.
“May tanggalin ako dalawa, sa DAR [Department of Agrarian Reform]. An application that was long delayed two years sa opisina nila. That is corruption to me… I will ask them to resign or else I will file charges against them,” Duterte told reporters in a chance interview after the groundbreaking of a hospital in Malabon City.
Duterte did not give more details about the supposed requests that the DAR officials failed to act upon.
Duterte, in recent months, has promised to distribute idle government lands in areas perceived to be strongholds of communist rebels to poor beneficiaries.
He has also stressed that peace talks with Philippine communists is no longer necessary to achieve genuine land reform.
