MANILA - The Alliance of Concerned Teachers on Monday filed criminal and administrative charges against top security officials whom it accused of profiling its members.

Philippine National Police Chief Director General Oscar Albayalde and Interior Secretary Eduardo Año were among those charged before the Ombudsman for violating the Data Privacy Act.

“Complainants, like many other organizations of similar nationalist leanings, are being falsely and maliciously tagged as communist fronts or terrorists on account of their political beliefs and dissension to the current administration,” ACT said in its filing.

Earlier this month, teachers belonging to the ACT claimed police officers made rounds in schools in Malabon, Cebu, Isabela and some Mindanao provinces, asking for their names.

The police officers carried a supposed memo on the profiling of teachers, the ACT said.

Albayalde denied ordering such efforts and sacked three officers who "leaked" the supposed memo.

The ACT earlier asked the Court of Appeals to to nullify all police directives for the profiling of teachers and stop authorities from harassing its members.

Director Gregorio Pimentel, PNP's Directorate for Intelligence, and Director Guillermo Eleazar was also among the security officials charged by ACT.
