MANILA - The lawyer of former senator Jinggoy Estrada called Priority Development Assistant Fund scam whistle-blower Benhur Luy a “well-rehearsed” witness Monday before the Sandiganbayan 5th Division.
Lawyer Paul Mar Arias made a snide comment against Luy who continued his direct testimony with government prosecutors on the the graft cases of Estrada arising from the PDAF scam.
“I know you have a script and he is well-rehearsed. But let us follow the rules,” Arias said during the hearing.
Estrada is facing 11 counts of graft for the alleged misuse of P278 million of his PDAF, aside from 1 count of plunder for supposedly pocketing P183 million from former businesswoman and plunder convict Janet Lim Napoles.
During the hearing, Division Chairperson Rafael Lagos told Arias not too be “too picky” as he kept on objecting to the prosecution’s questions addressed to Luy.
The prosecution was providing details on an alleged P50 million transaction between Estrada and Napoles.
“We cannot move forward because of you,” Lagos said.
While Lagos overruled most of the objections of the Estrada camp, he also sustained others such as scolding Luy for giving lengthy replies to the prosecution, to “appease” Arias.
The next graft hearing is scheduled on February 10.
