MANILA - A magnitude 5.1 earthquake, which may trigger aftershocks, shook portions of Leyte on Sunday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.
The tremor, which was tectonic in nature, was located 44 kilometers northeast of Hernani town in Eastern Samar at around 2:20 in the afternoon.
Intensity 3, which may feel like a passing of a light truck and cause dizziness to some people, was felt in Tacloban City, and the towns of Babatngon and Barugo.
Instrumental intensities 3 and 2 were also measured in Borongan and Palo, respectively. "Instrumental intensities" may or may not be felt by the people in the area, according to Phivolcs.
Phivolcs has already recorded a magnitude 2.3 aftershock in the area at around 2:41 p.m. While the quake was felt in several areas, it is not expected to cause damage to any structure.
