Jeffrey Rodriguez denied on Friday allegations he stole a woman's bag in Laoag City.

LAOAG CITY — A man was arrested after he was caught on CCTV stealing a woman's bag at Laoag City Commercial Complex on Friday.

CCTV footage showed Jeffrey Rodriguez, 20, running from the scene after he grabbed a bag owned by Maria Rosario, a businesswoman. A man caught up with Rodriguez though and stopped him from escaping.

Bobot Colobong said Rodriguez hid the bag inside a sack.

(I saw him, while the seller turned her back, that he was slowly taking the bag and putting it inside a sack so nobody would notice. When I approached him, he suddenly walked toward me that's why I chased him down.)

Rodriguez managed to escape by punching Colobong's hand.

(He dropped the sack, but he was able to run away. I returned the bag to the owner.)

Meanwhile, Rodriguez was arrested in an eatery where he was hiding. He denied the allegations.

(I'm here in Laoag because a friend of a friend offered me to work as a porter.)

The suspect will face charges of theft.
