(UPDATE) Four towns in Davao del Norte on Saturday carried out a preemptive evacuation after the Saug River overflowed and floodwater continued to rise due to heavy rainfall.

As of 4 p.m., the towns of Talaingod, Asuncion, New Corella and Kapalong were affected, according to Glenda Delideli, head of Davao del Norte Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

Some 2,102 residents were affected and 460 families were evacuated to schools and government buildings, authorities said.

Davao City's Central 911, meanwhile, ordered rescue teams to evacuate residents living near Davao and Lasang rivers, and other tributaries.
