Manila City is soon to be drug-free, according to its mayor, Joseph "Erap" Estrada.
Along with the campaign against illegal drugs, Estrada said the label "Manila's finest" will also soon return to the city's policemen.
He cited as proof the decreasing crime rate in the city which he says has now reached over 50 percent.
"Noong araw takot sila lahat ,ngayon they feel secure. Pinailawan namin mga kalye ,wala nang dilim," Estrada said during the 116th anniversary of the Manila Police District.
Estrada is expected to name, in the next few days, barangay chairmen with links to the illegal drug trade.
The former president said such barangay chairmen and other officials will immediately be removed from office and will face corresponding charges.
