MANILA - Large swaths of the country will experience occasionally heavy rains on Thursday due to a low pressure area off Mindanao, the state weather bureau said.
The weather system was spotted 95 kilometers east of Butuan City, Agusan del Norte at 3 a.m., according to a PAGASA bulletin.
The rains may trigger floods or landslides in the Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas and the provinces of Quezon, Romblon, Northern Cebu, Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Norte including Siargao Islands, PAGASA said.
The low pressure area, however, was unlikely to intensify into a storm, the weather bureau said.
The southwest monsoon or amihan, meanwhile, will bring light rains in the regions of Cagayan Valley, Cordillera, Ilocos and Central Luzon.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country were warned of possible landslides and floods due to localized thunderstorms.
