MANILA - Elements of the Philippine Army clashed with suspected Islamic State-inspired fighters in Lanao del Sur, a spokesperson for the military said Thursday.
The 55th Infantry Battalion encountered some 20 suspected members of Dawlah Islamiyah led by a certain Abu Dar, said Lt. Col. Gerry Besana, spokesperson of the Western Mindanao Command.
Firefight was still ongoing when the spot report was sent to reporters, but there were at least 3 soldiers slightly wounded but are now stable, it said.
