MANILA - A Makati police officer was arrested Thursday for allegedly extorting money from a "habal-habal" driver.
SPO4 Danilo Paghubasan, deputy commander of Makati Police Community Precinct 9, was caught in the act of receiving the P15,000 marked money from the complainant.
The habal-habal driver said Paghubasan asked him to pay a membership fee in order to pick up passengers at an illegal habal-habal terminal in Taguig.
“Huhulihin sila at hindi sila puwedeng kumuha ng passenger sa area. Pag wala kang membership fee hindi ka makakabiyahe. Huhulihin ka rin nung mga kasabwat niyang mga pulis doon sa lugar na yon,” PNP-Counter Intelligence Task Force camp commander Supt. Renante Lambojo said.
Paghubasan also allegedly asked for P150 a day from 40 of the habal-habal drivers in the area.
He allegedly threatened to arrest them along with police officers from PCP 8 if they pass by C5 Road, Palar village, Taguig City.
CITF and PNP Intelligence Group surveillance showed Paghubasan seen lurking in the habal-habal terminal and receiving money from the habal-habal drivers.
Paghubasan has been placed under the custody of CITF and is facing cases of graft and robbery extortion.
