MANILA - Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade has ordered the filing of charges against an agency official who allegedly accepted bribes from a transport cooperative.
The accused supervising transportation and development officer, Roberto Delfin, allegedly accepted P150,000 in exchange for approving New Sunrise Transport Cooperative’s (NTSC) application for a route measure capacity, according to a charge sheet.
"The said amount is in addition to other gifts and favors you asked for and received from NTSC, including escort services and all-expense paid accommodation in a private resort," the November 3, 2017 charge added.
Tugade directed Paul Yebra, undersecretary for legal affairs and procurement, to file grave misconduct and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service charges against Delfin, a DOTr press release said Monday.
The DOTr earlier this month issued a 90-day preventive suspension order against Delfin.
The suspension is meant to deprive him of "the opportunity to exert undue influence or pressure on potential witnesses and tamper with evidence pending formal investigation," Yebra said.
"Wala dapat bahid ng korapsyon sa ating sistema, dahil oras na may mahuli ako, hindi ako mangingiming tanggalin ka," Tugade said.
(There should be no tinge of corruption on our system, I will not hesitate to sack corrupt officers.)
