Shabu and cash confiscated by PDEA Central Visayas

CEBU CITY - Around P7 million worth of shabu was seized in a series of anti-drug operations here during the Sinulog celebration, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Central Visayas (PDEA-7) said Tuesday.

Since January 18, the anti-narcotics office has captured at least 10 individuals involved in the illegal drug trade, most of them travelers from Mindanao, said Emerson Margate, director of PDEA Central Visayas.

At least four individuals were arrested with 290 grams of confiscated shabu on January 18.

Another 5 drug suspects who were carrying 805 grams of shabu were apprehended on January 20.

During the fiesta celebration last Sunday, two men from Jolo who had 200 grams of illegal drugs were also arrested, Margate said.

One of the suspects arrested was 52-year-old Teresa Evangelista, who allegedly had 13 packs of illegal drugs wrapped in carbon paper and enclosed in a box.

She was apprehended at the Cebu South Bus Terminal.

Evangelista, however, denied that she owned the confiscated illegal drugs.

Various Sinulog 2018 activities were held from January 12 to 22.
