MANILA - Hadji Muhtamad, Basilan mayor Jamar Mansul was barred from leaving the country this week after his name appeared in the immigration database of wanted persons.
Mansul was about to depart Monday morning for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia when he was prevented from leaving the immigration counter.
Red Marinas, Immigration Port Operation Division chief, said Mansul’s name was included in the Martial Law Order No. 2 that declared martial rule in Mindanao and placed names of particular persons in the immigration blacklist.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Mansul said he heard that his name was included in the order but did not believe it.
“I am innocent and my conscience is clear. Ako pa nga ang tumutulong sa gobyerno at tumahimik ang Basilan,” the mayor said.
Mansul added that he needs to personally appear in Malaysia for the immigrant status of his wife and child. His third wife resides in Malaysia.
Since Monday, Mansul has been in the custody of the National Bureau of Investigation. But in the absence of a formal charge, he is expected to be released today.
