The Provincial Government of Albay on Tuesday suspended work both in the public and private sectors in 3 areas due to heavy ashfall brought about by the latest Mayon Volcano eruption.

"The PDRRMC Albay hereby orders the SUSPENSION of office work for both private and public offices in the municipalities of Camalig, Guinobatan and the City of Ligao except those engaged in peace and order, health, social services and disaster management," an advisory signed by Albay Governor Al Francis Bichara said.

"Also those employees residing in the affected barangays who are working outside of their municipalities or cities will be excused from reporting to work," the document read.

Mayon Volcano has been placed under Alert Level 4, the second to the highest alert, on Monday after the volcano continued to spew fountains of glowing lava and ash columns.

At least 40,000 residents have been evacuated in nearby towns.

Local authorities are preparing for possible preemptive evacuation in towns in the outskirts of the 8-kilometer danger zone in preparation for a possible big explosion.
