MANILA—Law enforcers have arrested 5 people in connection with the killing of former Batangas 2nd District Rep. Edgar Mendoza and 2 others in Quezon province.
The charred remains of Mendoza, his bodyguard Ruel Ruiz and his driver Nicanor Mendoza were found inside a car in Tiang town on Jan. 9.
Police Brig. Gen. Joel Coronel, director of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), said the motive appeared to be financial as one of the suspects and Mendoza were involved in a legal dispute.
Of the 5 suspects in police custody, one has been identified as the one who stabbed and burned the victims.
Mendoza reportedly left his home for a meeting in Calamba, Laguna on Jan. 8. His family reported him missing when he failed to come home.
