MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday said he will appoint Armed Forces chief of staff Rey Leonardo Guerrero to head the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina).
If Guerrero’s appointment pushes through, he will become the latest addition to the growing list of former military men that Duterte has appointed to various government posts.
“Iyang si Jagger, siya ang maghawak sa Marina,” Duterte said in a speech in Compostela Valley, referring to the AFP chief’s nickname.
Guerrero will retire on April 24, 2018 after his term was extended for 6 months. He was supposed to retire last December 17, 2017 when he reached the mandatory age retirement of 56.
Duterte this month fired Marina administrator Marcia Amaro III due to “excessive travels.”
