MAGUINDANAO– Thousands of families are affected as 12 low-lying lying villages in the municipality of Pagalungan remain flooded.

As of Sunday morning, weather in Maguindanao has improved but floods, which are not expected to subside for 2 weeks, continue to affect 8,234 families.

Torrential rains brought about by the tail end of a cold front flooded several areas in Visayas and Mindanao last week.

Pagalungan’s local government will pass a resolution Monday to put the 12 villages under a state of calamity. The villages have been flooded for 5 days now.

Pagalungan is the catch basin of water from Bukidnon and other areas in central and northern Mindanao.

Meanwhile, 600 families in Barangay Inug-ug received food packs containing 5 kilos of rice, sardines and noodles from the local government Sunday.

The local government of the town of Datu Montawal, Maguindanao also placed 11 of its villages under a state of calamity on Saturday due to extensive flooding that affected 6,200 families.
