In a recent speech, President Duterte said he would do a “Marcos” and arrest owners of water distribution companies that he would jail them if they would try to stop him from seeking new concession deals. But in a move that could be seen as allaying fears in the business community, the Palace assured there would be due process if any official of a water firm is arrested.
Series of quakes
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) is maintaining its alert level 4 for Taal Volcano. A series of quakes rocked Batangas Sunday, the strongest at magnitude 4.2. Vice President Leni Robredo said now is not the time for a congressional probe on Phivolcs. President Duterte is scheduled to visit Batangas today.
Invited to Vegas
Speaking of President Duterte, he has been invited to visit the U.S. by President Donald Trump for the US-ASEAN summit in Las Vegas in March. The invitation was made despite recent U.S. legislation that bars government officials involved in the detention of Sen. Leila de Lima from entering the U.S.
