MANILA- The local government of Makati City said Monday it would help rescue animals left behind in towns near the Taal Volcano.

Makati Mayor Abigail Binay said the city would send an impounding vehicle that could ferry 24 medium-sized dogs left behind when thousands fled from the volcanic eruption last week.

Veterinarians will also go to Batangas province to bring food, vitamins, and medicine to the Batangas Provincial Veterinary Office, Binay said.

Animal owners have urged authorities to allow the rescue of as many animals as possible even as Taal Volcano remained under alert level 4 which meant a possible hazardous eruption.
