COTABATO CITY – A man suspected to have connections with several local terrorist groups was arrested for rebellion charges on Friday afternoon, police said.

Datu Mohalidin Usman, who uses the aliases Amir Khatab Usman, Datu Fahad Abdula Mangulamas, Abu Kattab, Dats and Usman, was nabbed for rebellion or violation of Article 134 of the Revised Penal Code during a joint police and military operation at Governor Gutierrez Avenue, Barangay Rosary Heights 9 in Cotabato City.

The suspect’s name was in the Martial Law Arrest Order signed by Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana in May 2017, after firefights between terrorists and state troops erupted in Marawi City.

Martial law remains in effect in Mindanao despite the end of the five-month siege in October 2017.

Operatives recovered a hand grenade and different identification cards from the suspect’s possession.

Authorities said he is a member of a criminal group in the city.

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (CIDG-ARMM) is verifying information that he has links to local terror groups involved in bombing activities, kidnappings and killings in Marawi City.

The suspect is now detained at the CIDG-ARMM lock up cell.
