ILIGAN CITY – Students of Lumbatin Elementary School in Barangay Pugaan braved the rain and crossed violent waters yesterday.

Bigger kids carried the smaller ones on their backs while others crossed the river hand-in-hand.

The river swelled after several hours of non-stop rain.

Another video captured raging waters submerging a large portion of the road.

Teachers and students walked on the side of the trail that remained visible.

School principal Carlos Llamas, who took the videos, can be heard stopping his students from crossing far more turbulent waters. The students, all soaked, watched random things get washed away.

Llamas said this is the same river their students have to cross daily to get to school and yesterday was so far the direst situation for them. He urged the government to put up a footbridge so that his students could easily be evacuated in times of heavy rains and storms.

The videos have garnered 23,000 views and 2,000 shares on Facebook as of posting.

Iligan Mayor Celso Regencia has announced suspension of classes today in all grade levels.
