MANILA - A 14-year-old boy died after heavy rains inundated Cagayan de Oro, Mayor Oscar Moreno confirmed Tuesday.
Speaking to radio DZMM, Moreno said the victim was hit by a falling wall in his house in Agusan village.
The village is located near a river that swelled due to the heavy rains.
Waist-high floods submerged parts of Cagayan de Oro City on Monday as a low pressure area and the tail-end of a cold front dumped rains over Visayas and Mindanao.
Local officials declared Cagayan de Oro under state of calamity after the weather disturbances forced drove hundreds of residents to evacuation centers.
Moreno said floods in the city have subsided and families staying at 18 evacuation centers have begun to go home.
Local officials are still assessing the damage caused by the floods.
