DOLE to hire 6,000 interns in areas affected by Taal eruption

MANILA - The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Thursday said it would hire 6,000 government interns from areas in Batangas affected by the eruption of the Taal Volcano to help out within their own communities.

In a statement, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said that under DOLE’s Government Internship Program (GIP), 600 interns will be sent to each of these towns: Lemery, Mataas na Kahoy, Agoncillo, Laurel, Talisay, Taal, San Nicolas, Balete, San Jose and Sta. Teresita.

DOLE said this aims to provide temporary employment to affected residents and also help local government units in relief and rehabilitation efforts.

Hired interns will work for 30 days and will receive a salary of P12,050. The interns shall also be entitled to insurance coverage under the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS).

DOLE said P72.6 million was allocated for the employment program. 

The labor department said applicants should have the following qualifications:

  • 18 years old and above with no work experience or with intermittent work experience
  • at least graduates of high school, senior high school or its equivalent level under the Alternative Learning System (ALS), or graduates of a technical-vocational course.
