MANILA - Former Cabadbaran City Mayor Dale Corvera is facing graft and malversation cases over his allegedly unlawful reimbursement of personal expenses.
In two separate cases, the Ombudsman has accused Corvera of taking advantage of his position in using public funds.
Corvera allegedly claimed a total of P362,145.85 reimbursements for the money used on the mayor's trips with his wife between May 5, 2011 and June 26, 2014. This includes their expenses to attend Boy Scout activities in Manila, and meals, hotel accommodation, airfare and other travel expenses in Cebu City.
In debunking his explanation, the Ombudsman ruled that “the public character of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines cannot serve as valid justification for charging against public funds expenses incurred for attending its activities.”
The resolution read “as the chief executive of the city of Cabadbaran, respondent exercises control over the city’s funds and is accountable for them."
Corvera may post P40,000 bail for his malversation case, and P30,000 for his graft case.
