MANILA - A Filipino student drowned in New Zealand last Friday, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Tuesday.

In a statement, the DFA said Kent Espinosa, 26, was swimming with his friends at Whangarei Falls in Northland, New Zealand when he drowned.

The agency expressed its sympathies and said the Philippine Embassy in Wellington is coordinating with local authorities for the issuance of visa for Espinosa's sister, who will fly from the Philippines to bring home his remains.

Espinosa's drowning comes after a newly-wedded Filipino couple drowned in Maldives while on their honeymoon.
