MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday met with the Bacolod City cops who he sacked earlier due to their alleged involvement in the narcotics trade.
Duterte earlier singled out Bacolod police chief, Senior Supt. Francis Ebreo over his supposed drug links.
The president also sacked four other cops in the city, identified as Senior Supt. Allan Rubi Macapagal, Supt. Richie Makilan Yatar, Supt. Nasruddin Daud Tayuan, and Senior Insp. Victor Paulino.
"I’d like to know if the chief of police is here. If you are here kindly stand up because you are fired as of this moment," the President said in a speech.
Former Special Assistant to the President Bong Go confirmed Tuesday’s meeting, adding the police officials denied any involvement in the illegal drug trade.
“Pinagsabihan lang ng medyo (They were admonished),” Go said in a text message.
The President had identified the 4 police officials as Superintendents Tayuan and Yatar, Senior Insp. Macapagal, and Victor Paulino.
The Palace has yet to give details on the alleged role of the sacked cops in the illegal drug trade.
