MANILA - A court in President Rodrigo Duterte's hometown Davao City Tuesday denied on Tuesday the Department of Justice's request to block Senator Antonio Trillanes IV' travels abroad.
The Davao Regional Trial court Branch 54 said the senator, who is facing libel charges, is not a "flight risk" in view of his voluntary surrender.
The Davao City court also said Trillanes' trips were planned before the filing of libel cases against him by the President's son, former Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte, and his son-in-law, Manases Carpio.
The two filed libel cases against Trillanes just days after the President voided the senator's amnesty, reviving coup d'etat and rebellion charges against him for uprisings in 2003 and 2007.
