5 dead, 45 arrested at checkpoints nationwide since start of election period: PNP

MANILA—Five people have died and 45 arrested at more than 6,200 checkpoints nationwide since election period began on Sunday, January 13, according to authorities.

The information was released on Tuesday by the National Election Monitoring and Action Center of the Philippine National Police.

Various operations were conducted by the PNP, which resulted in the arrest of four suspects through a search warrant, while 40 were arrested during police patrolling and 11 during operations such as operations Bakal, Sita and Galugad. 

As of posting, 47 guns, 16 improvised firearms and gun replica, and 311 deadly weapons have been confiscated by the police.
