MANILA - Malacañang on Sunday said it is closely monitoring the Taal volcano situation and advised the public to remain vigilant.
President Rodrigo Duterte has also instructed concerned agencies to "undertake measures necessary to place the people within the perimeter of Taal out of the danger zone," said Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo.
"Concerned agencies of the national government are now working closely with the Provincial Government of Batangas to ensure the safety of the residents, including their evacuation," Panelo said in a statement.
State seismology bureau Phivolcs raised alert level 3 over Taal Volcano after the volcanic island spewed an ash plume 1 kilometer high.
The agency also advised that residents near the volcano be evacuated amid the ongoing volcanic activity and the possibility of a volcanic tsunami.
