MANILA - Several telecommunication networks on Saturday sent out automated messages that warned subscribers about a "scam" that sought donations allegedly for Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle.

Several Globe and TM subscribers received messages that read: "Huwag pong maniwala sa text na nanghihingi ng donasyon para kay Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle. Ito po ay isang SCAM."

The message did not specify the modus of the bogus donation drive.

Tagle is expected to be based in Rome during his tenure as the "Red Pope," a position equivalent to that of the Cabinet secretary to the Roman Pontiff.

Tagle, who has been the chair of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines, is expected to be based in Rome during his tenure as the "Red Pope," a position equivalent to that of the Cabinet secretary to the Roman Pontiff.

He is also expected to normalize Sino-Vatican relations, and steer the direction for some 12 million Catholics in China.
