MANILA - House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Friday said she supports House Majority Leader Rolando "Nonoy" Andaya amid the reported ouster plot against him.
"I don’t know how many congressmen share the same sentiment. As far as I can see, the majority supports the incumbent," Arroyo told reporters in Pampanga.
"I am only one vote, I’d still vote for Nonoy," she added.
Arroyo said she will not intervene on behalf of Andaya, who served as budget secretary under her administration.
"I think Nonoy can take care of himself. I am not an interventionist person on political matters," she said.
Andaya has a longstanding rivalry against Camarines Sur 2nd District Rep. Luis Raymund Villafuerte, who is allegedly behind the ouster plot.
The two figured in a verbal clash last year, which almost came to blows, after Andaya's staff allegedly beat local officials in Pili town, Camarines Sur.
Andaya will be challenging Villafuerte's son, Camarines Sur Gov. Miguel Villafuerte, for the governor's post in the May midterm elections.
