SINAIT, Ilocos Sur - A Philippine Hawk Eagle died after it was found wounded in a backyard here, officials said Tuesday.
Wildlife officials suspect the raptor sustained the wound from hunters, said Antonio Patol of the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO).
It was found in Ricudo village, Sinait town and was later turned over to the local environment office.
The Philippine Hawk Eagle is considered an endangered species or three steps away from extinction, according to data from the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources.
Hunting endangered species is punishable with up to two years imprisonment and a fine of up to P200,000.
