MANILA - The Mindanao Field Unit of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Women and Children Protection Center (WCPC) arrested a 24-year-old-mom caught in the act of peddling her 7-year-old daughter online in Iligan City.
According to Senior Inspector Rassel Tuliao, chief of the Mindanao Field Unit ng WCPC, they conducted surveillance on the suspect who was a victim of sexual exploitation herself.
“Dati siya ang nagsho-show hanggang sa ginamit na niya ang anak niya. Matagal na niyang ginagawa iyon, may record na siya noon pang 2012 hanggang 2015. She was also a victim before. Dating victim, ngayon facilitator na,” Tuliao said.
WCPC is still investigating if her own kin subjected her to sexual exploitation.
Authorities rescued other minors with ages 1,2,4,5 and 10 who were related to the suspect.
“Iyon ang environment nila, bata pa sila, akala nila mga bagay na iyon natural lang na ginagawa ‘yon. Dala rin ng kahirapan. Parang wala na lang sa kanila kase noong mga bata pa ay ginagawa na rin nila. Parang naging mundo na nila ‘yon,” Tuliao said.
The social workers are investigating if the children were abused while inside the house.
“Isang bahay kase sila. ‘Yung bahay may division lang, kuwarto-kuwarto lang ang pagitan. Kaya kinuha na natin,” Tuliao said.
The suspect’s mother was also arrested by PNP-WCPC for allegedly receiving the payment from the customers via money transfer.
The suspects will be charged with violation of
Republic Act 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012) and Republic Act9775 (Anti-(Anti-Child Pornography Act of 2009). Both with penalties equivalent to 20-40 years imprisonment.
According to International Justice Mission, a human rights agency, as of December 2018, IJM has supported Philippine law enforcement agencies in the arrest of 177 online sexual exploitation of children (OSEC) perpetrators and in the rescue of 416 victims around the country since 2011.
