Cebu mall fire out after more than 2 days: BFP

The Bureau of Fire Protection has extinguished the fire that hit a department store in Cebu after more than two days.

BFP 7 Regional Director Fire Senior Supt. Samuel Tadeo declared the fire out Monday afternoon at 4:18 p.m.

Damage caused by the fire is estimated at P100 million, Tadeo told DYAB Cebu.

It took the fire fighters more than 2 days to totally declare fire out. 

Meanwhile, Cebu City Government, through the Office of the Building Official, will meet the structural engineers of Metro Department Store for demolition of the building.

The investigating team is composed of 15 personnel from BFP Cebu City, BFP Cebu Province and BFP Region 7.

They will collect debris from the fire scene as part of the investigation.

The fire hit the 5-story mall Friday evening. Authorities had difficulty putting out the fire due to the flammable textile and plastic products inside the building.
