Mats are being distributed to evacuees.

Hundreds were evacuated in Butuan City on Sunday as Typhoon ‘Auring’ continues to bring heavy rains.

A total of 55 households or 1,099 individuals from five different barangays in Butuan City were evacuated due to flooding in their respective areas.

“We are afraid because the water level in our area is already knee-deep high,” Eda Auron, an evacuee said.

The evacuees are temporarily sheltered in Agusan National High School, including the family of Auron.

As of 12:30 p.m., the water level in Agusan River has decreased to 2.12 meters but Butuan City remains under Flood Alert Level 1.

Speedboats and other rescue equipment of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council are on standby for possible rescue operations.

Meanwhile, in the municipality of Remedios T. Romualdez in Agusan del Norte, 83 families or over 276 individuals were evacuated to the municipal gym due to flooding in Barangay Panaytayon.

“We will provide them with food at para panghiga nila mamayang gabi. We are also monitoring barangays para 'yung mga hindi pa nag-evacuate ay mabigyan din ng mga pagkain,” Mayor Ernie Ceniza said.

Auring has slightly changed its speed and direction as it heads for Surigao del Norte, state weather bureau PAGASA said. It is forecasted to make landfall over Surigao del Sur between Sunday night and Monday morning.
