'Auring' makes landfall over Siargao Island

MANILA - Tropical Depression "Auring" has made landfall over Siargao Island in Surigao del Norte on Sunday afternoon, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

In its 5 p.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said Auring was last seen in the vicinity of Cagdianao, Dinagat Islands. It has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center, with gusts of up to 70 kph.

It is expected to move northwest at 9 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 was raised over Cuyo Island, Bohol, Siquijor, Negros provinces, southern Leyte, Cebu, Guimaras, southern part of Iloilo, southern part of Antique, Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Surigao del Norte including Siargao Island, Dinagat Province, Misamis Oriental, and Camiguin.

Moderate to heavy rainfall is also expected within the 300-kilometer diameter of the tropical depression.

Auring is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility by Thursday.
